Under the Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions (EES) agreement signed between the University and Microsoft, student and eligible staff can download and install Microsoft Office ProPlus (Office 365 ProPlus) on up to 5 machines being PC or Mac as well as Office Mobile on up to 5 mobile devices without additional cost. Under the latest version of Office 365 ProPlus, they can also use Microsoft’s online cloud storage OneDrive for Business (5 TB in size) and Skype for Business.

Staff who have a Sophos Endpoint Antivirus license installed through their departments can download ONE copy of this software for installation on a home PC for work-related purpose. For students, each of them can install ONE copy on their PCs during their studies at the University.
All use of the software is governed by the Sophos end-user license agreement at https://www.sophos.com/en-us/legal/sophos-end-user-license-agreement.aspx.

The University has entered into a campus license arrangement on MATLAB and Simulink software. This campus license is called the MATLAB Total Academic Headcount (TAH) license. It covers the access to MATLAB, Simulink and a related suite of toolboxes by all staff and students.
With the TAH license, departments will have access to the latest MATLAB and Simulink software for supporting teaching and research activities. The software can be installed on the on-campus computing facilities, laboratories, classrooms and research centres, as well as faculty-owned and student-owned personal computers.

A campus license on SmartDraw is arranged for use of HKU staff and students. This is a software product developed by SmartDraw Software, LLC for capturing and presenting information as diagrams or charts (click here for the detailed functionalities). It provides more than 70 different types of diagrams and thousands of templates. Users can import/export diagrams/template in Microsoft Visio format. It integrates easily with those commonly used tools such as exporting the diagram directly to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
SmartDraw has two versions: 1) Cloud edition; 2) a downloadable edition for Windows desktop (Windows 10/8/7). The Cloud and desktop versions are completely integrated and users can store, share, and edit files online and move seamlessly between the two versions.

A campus license on Qualtrics is arranged for use by HKU staff and students. This is a research survey software product developed by Qualtrics, LLC. It is a survey tool that helps users to design and publish survey online. It also offers powerful analytics and real-time data tracking features which could save users’ effort in collecting and analysing the survey data.
Qualtrics provides over 100 different ways to ask a question. There are 23 question types (e.g. multiple choice, matrix table, rank order etc) and a variety of settings that can be used to access each of these possibilities. HKU has subscribed the add-on feature File Upload question type which allows respondents to upload a file along with their survey response.
The use of this software is governed by the Terms of Service of Qualtrics, LLC and it is subject to annual renewal. IT Services reserves the right to terminate any user’s access to Qualtrics at any time.

The SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) is the commonly used statistical software suite for complex statistical data analysis on Windows, Macintosh and Linux platforms. SPSS is available for use by current staff and students.

A campus license on Zoom, a video conferencing service, is coordinated for use by staff and students for facilitating their work and studies. The Zoom service is a useful tool for supporting video conferencing between teachers and their students as it would be needed for online teaching and learning.
Zoom conferencing can be used for online meetings, classes, interviews, etc. Each licensed user may host one meeting at a time. The maximum number of participants of a meeting is 300. Staff and students can organize online meetings easily with following steps:

Click the “Login” button and login with HKU Portal UID and PIN.
- Upon a successful login, staff and students will be assigned with a Zoom license for meeting hosting. After that, they can start scheduling Zoom meetings.

A site license on TechSmith Camtasia is coordinated for use by all staff and students who can install one copy of this software for use on their personal computers during their works or studies at the University.
Camtasia is a screen camcorder and video production tool. It can record screen activity in videos, edit and narrate the video clips. The final cut can be rendered into several standard video formats for ease of sharing.
PDF X-Change Pro is a software product developed by Tracker Software Products for viewing, creating and editing PDF documents. PDF-XChange PRO supports Windows 7 or later but not Macintosh. A campus license on PDF-XChange PRO has been arranged through which University staff can use it on PCs directly owned or leased by departments within the University campus without additional charge (campus outside Hong Kong is not covered under the campus license). They can also install this software on personal equipment used for work-related purpose.

AWS Educate is Amazon’s global initiative to provide students and educators with resources needed to accelerate cloud-related learning. AWS Educate provides grant-based access to AWS, training, and content, which also providing students and educators with a forum for collaboration. Students and teaching staff are required to use an AWS account to register AWS Educate. After the AWS Educate application is approved, they can redeem the AWS credits for using the AWS services. HKU students can register for using Microsoft Azure for Students to gets $100 of Azure credits to be used within the first 12 months.
