A new HKU Portal (https://hkuportal.hku.hk) is launched in tandem with the go-live of the new Student Information System on October 25, 2010. This is a newly developed enterprise-type portal to support a single sign-on platform for accessing the SIS (Student Information System) and HCM (Human Capital Management System). The new HKU Portal serves as a common gateway for University members to access services provided by the SIS and HCM as well as to the legacy applications now being mounted on the existing HKU Portal that have to continue to run. This new portal employs the same technology as SIS and HCM which enables seamless integration with the two systems.
The new HKU Portal is made available for use by students and staff in line with the go-live dates of the SIS and HCM systems respectively. Students can start using the new HKU Portal when SIS is launched whereas staff can use it when HCM is rolled out. Staff accessing HKU Portal (https://hkuportal.hku.hk) before the go-live of the HCM will see the previous version of HKU Portal.
Staff and students can access HKU Portal (https://hkuportal.hku.hk) with their unique HKU Portal UID (User Identification Number) and PIN (password).
The HKU Portal UID and PIN are distributed to new students upon admission registration. Thus, no application is required. Staff members can apply for the UID and PIN online. For details, please refer to https://www.its.hku.hk/services/account/application/apply-portal-staff.
3.1 SIS (Student Information System) for Students
The SIS (Student Information System) from PeopleSoft supports the management of all student-related information including admissions, timetable schedules, course enrollment, grades, records, transcripts and student self-service, etc.

3.2 HCM (Human Capital Management) for Staff
The HCM (Human Capital Management) system from PeopleSoft supports the management of University's human resource, staff cost budgeting and payroll operations.
Central email/calendar service running on Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) platform is provided for use by staff and students.
3.4 Learning Management System
Moodle is supported which is the primary Learning Management System for University teaching and learning. The system provides an electronic platform for teachers to post up courses/class materials and students can access the online courses and submit assignment. 3.5 Library Services
Online access to the electronic resources and services provided by the Libraries.
3.6 Event Management System
The HKU Event Management System (HKUEMS) is designed for departments and student societies to announce and manage their events and activities. It is extensively used by students, staff and departments for event broadcast, registration and management. Daily events organized by departments and student societies will be displayed and search function is provided for ease of locating an event by organizer, date, keywords, etc.
