To address the security vulnerability of password sniffing when sending plain text user name and password over non-SSL connections, staff members using non-SSL on POP3/IMAP will be declined from accessing their HKU emails after 31 December 2021. 

For security sake, colleagues are reminded to turn on the SSL protocol at their email clients as soon as possible by following the steps here
