Launch of a New AI-Research Computing Platform

A new and advanced computing platform called “AI-Research” has been launched in January 2021 for supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI) research studies. This system platform is running on a NVIDIA DGX A100 machine equipped with

  • 2 x AMD EPYC 7742 64C CPUs, 1TB RAM, 15TB NVMe SSD; and
  • 8 x NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs (40GB)

The “AI-Research” platform is particularly suitable for use by experienced researchers possessing solid knowledge in using Linux environment and Docker container while they would require very high computation requirements in working on their AI projects. This platform supports simulations via enroot or Singularity container that can be easily converted from Docker image. For more information about this new system, please visit https://hpc.hku.hk/ai/ai-research/.

Besides, we are also setting up another graphical user interface (GUI) based AI system called “AI-Service” for enabling researchers to develop, train and deploy the AI and Machine Learning (ML) models faster and easier. The system is now at its final stage of implementation and we will update our users again when it is ready to launch.

For users who have any questions on the above new research computing facilities or other related facilitates available, please contact undersigned or email to group-its-hpc@hku.hk.
