ITS is supporting a central file sharing system using a Network Attached Storage (NAS) called f1.hku.hk. Departments can apply for using the NAS for file sharing among colleagues. This NAS supports both Common Internet File System (CIFS, for Windows) and Network File System (NFS, for Unix/Linux).
About 40 departments are now using this file sharing system. Departments who wish to use it can follow the procedures described below, which have been updated with effect from April 2017:
1. New application
New application can be submitted using the application form CF158 “Departmental SharePoint Workspace, Central File Sharing System and Email Group for Staff”. An initial 20GB free storage space will be allocated to each department on the first CIFS (no free storage allocation for NFS) and a one-time fee of HK$500 will apply for each set up of CIFS/NFS. Charging rates for additional storage can be referred to CF158. For other details, please refer to CF-158i “Information Sheet on Departmental SharePoint Workspace, Central File Sharing System and/or Email Group for Staff”.
2. Additional storage
Departments can apply for additional storage on f1.hku.hk using CF101c “Additional Computing Resources”. Use of additional storage is subject to annual renewal. All applications for additional resources (including new application/renewal) will end on December 31 and no pro-rata charge arrangement will be made for an application period of less than 12 months.
3. Renewal of additional storage
System administrators will receive an email renewal notification before the annual renewal date of December 31. Usage of additional storage will be renewed after receiving the confirmation from departments.
