The University Smart Card Upgrade Project

The University Smart Card Upgrade Project has been underway since 2015.  The Smart Card facilities upgrade is needed for enabling the use of the new University Smart Cards which are technically different from the existing University Smart Cards.

There are 3 types of University Smart Cards namely Student Registration Card, Staff Card and Facilities Access Card.  The first new University Smart Card, Student Registration Card, will be issued starting from July 2016 and the issuance of new Staff Card and Facilities Access Card will start in the second half of 2016.

The new University Smart Cards are having a new look as well as improvement in both the printing and lamination quality for enhancing the durability of the cards.

The existing and new University Smart Cards will be in parallel use before the existing cards will be gradually replaced.  Departments are advised to inform their colleagues of the new card design for supporting operations that involve a physical checking of users’ University Smart Cards for identity verification.

There will be a standard charge of HK$50/card for first time issuance of Facilities Access Card.  A replacement cost of HK$150/card will be applied for all types of University Smart Cards.
