With the growing demand for WiFi service due to the popular use of mobile devices among students, the WiFi infrastructure laid down in the student residential halls years ago is becoming less capable to cope with the demand. With funding approval obtained from the Committee on Halls (CoH), a WiFi upgrade project has been kicked off in August 2015 to address the issues of weak WiFi signals and unstable performance in some areas identified in the halls.
Under this project, two WiFi Access Points (APs) have been/will be added on each floor in the following student residential halls to augment the WiFi coverage. The upgrade work in some of the halls has been completed while others are in progress. The current progress is summarized below-
|Name of Student Residential Halls||Completion Date||Name of Student Residential Halls||Target Completion Date|
|Lee Shau Kee Hall||Completed||Lee Hysan Hall||Apr-16|
|Morrison Hall||Completed||Simon KY Lee Hall|
|Suen Chi Sun Hall||Completed||Starr Hall|
|University Hall||Completed||Swire Hall|
|Wei Lun Hall|
|St. John's College||Jul-16|
|Lady Ho Tung Hall|
|RC Lee Hall|
(No upgrade during the examination periods in December 2015 and May 2016.)
Residents in halls with upgrade work completed are invited to provide feedback on the WiFi connectivity and performance in their halls through an online survey. We shall review the feedback collected for possible improvement, which is particularly useful for the upcoming upgrades in other student residential halls.
