ITS is supporting the network infrastructure of the University. To provide network connectivity across the campus, network equipment is installed in each building. For newer buildings, network equipment is stored inside the locked IT closet rooms whereas for older buildings, network equipment is put inside hanging cabinets along the corridors or in common areas, offices or laboratories.
For safety sake, ITS had recently undertaken a round of inspection on these hanging cabinets, and put up warning signs on those meeting the criteria below:-
- Lower than 1.82m (i.e. 6 ft.); and
- No furniture or fixture beneath the hanging cabinets

The adding of warning signs is an initial effort to reduce the risk of injuries resulting from bumping into the hanging cabinets accidentally. ITS is working on more long-term solutions such as relocating the hanging cabinets into IT closet rooms or moving them to above head level, depending on the availability of suitable locations within the buildings or departments.
Please be more cautious when you see the hanging cabinets with warning signs.
