New Lecture Theatres and Study Areas on the First and Second Floors of the KK Leung Building

We are pleased to announce that 4 new lecture theatres and study areas, “The Curve”, located on the first and second floors of the KK Leung Building will open at the start of the next semester in the New Year (i.e. 20 Jan, 2014).

“The Curve” Project was raised in 2012 to develop space on the 1/F and 2/F of the KK Leung Building which became vacant when the Law Library relocated to its new home at the Centennial Campus.  This project aimed at developing new, modern learning spaces based upon the standards developed during the construction of the Centennial Campus with some additional enhancements.

There are 4 x 120-seat lecture theatres inside “The Curve” and we have used this project as a “pilot” for some new and different ideas in learning space design.  For instance, the new HD document camera is ceiling mounted, providing the same facilities as a traditional visualizer with a better quality image, it also gives the user to have more working space on the desk when it is not in use. An “all in one” PC with a high quality DVD playback facility will be provided, together with a wireless keyboard and mouse which will allow the teacher/presenter to move away from the desk and even pass the keyboard to the audience in a more interactive session.

The spaces outside the 4 lecture theatres have been designed using good/popular examples of facilities to be found in the Chi Wah Learning Commons.  Because of circulation issues with large numbers accessing the lecture theatres, a number of glazed screens have been used to create the division between circulation and study space.  Most of the furniture to be used will be loose, but on each floor there are 3 fixed study booths with access to large screens.
