The HKU WiFi service is using a digital certificate to support secure WiFi communication. We have been informed by Equifax, the provider of the current WiFi digital certificate, that the certificate will expire soon, and a new digital certificate from "GeoTrust Global CA" will replace the current one for the following WiFi networks -
- Universities WiFi
- Universities via PCCW
- Universities via Y5ZONE
As a result of the above change in the digital certificate, WiFi users need to update the digital certificate in their mobile devices ONCE in order to continue using the University’s WiFi service as described below.
Windows 7/Vista/XP notebook users
Please run the computer program at http://www.its.hku.hk/home/networks/wifi/WiFi_Setup.exe. The WiFi configuration in the notebook PCs will be automatically updated to use the new digital certificate. On completion, select a HKU WiFi service, such as Universities WiFi, to connect to; you will be prompted to enter yourHKUPortalUID@hku.hk and PIN. The update is done after successful login.
Users will be prompted to accept a new certificate the first time when they connect to the HKU WiFi after 30 July 2012. The update is done after you click “Accept” to connect.
Users need to follow the instructions at Question 7 (Q7) of the Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) at http://www.its.hku.hk/faq/faqwlan.htm to choose and use the new digital certificate.
Android and Windows mobile phone users
Users of Android and Windows mobile phones are NOT affected by the change in the digital certificate.
