We are pleased to announce that with the opening of the Learning Commons (LC) in Centennial Campus in September, a new printing service will be introduced. This new service, called uPrint, is a feature-rich cloud printing service which supports printing anywhere from any PCs installed inside the LC as well as from mobile PCs (Windows 7 and Macintosh OS) and devices (iPad and iPhone). Photocopying is also a new service available under uPrint.
There will be a total of 10 printers (8 black/white and 2 color printers) inside the LC to support A4 and A3 size printing and photocopying. Similar to the printing service supported in the central PC laboratories in the Run Run Shaw Building and the Old Library Building, the uPrint service uses a print quota system. A user can add quota into his/her HKU Portal account using an Octopus card at any of the 4 Add Value Machines (AVM) available in LC.
Users can collect their printouts at the LC printers by presenting their HKU staff/student cards or using their HKU Portal UID/PIN. After successful authentication, users will see the list of print jobs submitted and they can select the job(s) they wish to print. Upon completion, printing quota will be deducted from their accounts.
The uPrint service will be launched in phases starting from September 2012. More details will be announced later. Meanwhile, please feel free to contact the undersigned for any information you need regarding the uPrint service.
