We are pleased to announce that staff using the central email service and calendar service (HKUCC1) will be allocated 5GB of disk storage as a default, an upgrade from the current allocation of 1GB. The upgrade exercise was kicked off in July 2012 and is being implemented in batches for the more than 7,000 staff accounts. The upgrade exercise is expected to complete by October 2012.
The upgrade is made possible with the acquisition of new servers and storage to augment our private cloud infrastructure in the first quarter of 2012. The central email service for staff (HKUCC1) system is now supported by 24 high performance Windows servers. The upgrade makes it possible for us to increase the disk quota for staff and improve system performance.
For colleagues who are still using the legacy email service on HKUCC, they are encouraged to register using the HKUCC1 service to enjoy the many features supported by Microsoft Exchange and having a 5GB disk quota instead of 300MB that they are getting. The registration procedure is simple via HKU Portal (Campus Information Services > Central IT Services > Email migration (from HKUCC)).
