HKUESD System Upgraded

    1. Upgrade of HKUESD system
    2. Removal of digital signature from all self-service applications

1. Upgrade of HKUESD system

The computer server HKUESD.hku.hk was successfully upgraded on December 20, 2009 and all its web-based applications were migrated to run on the new system.  Some of the commonly used applications running on the server include:

  • Sports Facilities Booking
  • Performance Review and Development (PRD)
  • Performance Review and Staff Development (PRSD)
  • Annual/Long Leave System
  • Research Outputs System

Please refer to http://www.its.hku.hk/hkuesd for the list of applications running on the new HKUESD system.

The new HKUESD system is about 4 times more powerful than the old system.  Users can now experience faster response after the upgrade.

2. Removal of digital signature from all self-service applications

In conjunction with the upgrade of the HKUESD system, the requirement of digital signature previously used in some self-service applications was also removed.  With the retirement of this last batch of applications employing digital signatures on December 20, 2009, the use of HKU-Cert digital certificate is not required any more and all HKU-Cert became invalid.  Individual HKU-Cert holders can destroy the green card-size 'HKU-Cert CD' by cutting into halves and discard it.  Users need not take any action in regard to the HKU-Cert residing on staff/student cards as the invalid HKU-Cert will not affect the use of the card.
