Course Selection System - Useful Tip for Instructors to Perform Course-based Approval

1. Introduction

As the second semester course add/drop period will soon begin in early January 2010, we would like to refresh the course instructors that they can make use of the Ballot Function available under the Course Selection System for the coming course approval exercise.

The Ballot Function is a useful tool to assist in the course-based approval process.  This is particularly useful for those popular courses requiring no pre-requisite to take.  By making use of this function, the system can produce a random list of students approved for a particular course through a drawing lot mechanism.  This will save much of the instructors' time in course approval. 

2. Ballot function

The Ballot Function is easy to use.  Course instructors can access this function under the Course Approval System through the following steps:  

  1. Login HKU Portal (click "My UIS" tab => "Student" menu => "Course Approval System" link=>"Course-based Approval" link).
  2. Click the "Ballot" link beside the course code.
  3. Enter the lot number that you want to draw in the "Ballot" column.
  4. Click the "Submit" button.
