Course Descriptions

Courses on E-mail and HKU Portal Services

Introduction to HKU Portal and HKUESD (separate sessions for staff and for students starting in Sep 2004)

This is a 2-hour workshop on concepts of the HKU Portal and HKUESD systems and on how to use these services.

The HKU Portal is a web-based interface to the computer services and information provided by the University.  You can access web-based email, the HKU Libraries' resources, on-line courses, teaching and learning resources, personal records, administrative data, research information and other on-line services provided by various departments with a single sign-on using your HKU Portal UID (user identification).

The HKUESD services are web-based applications where you sign electronically with your HKU digital certificate (HKU-Cert). Digital signatures, based on public key infrastructure (PKI), provide reliable authentication and assure data integrity. (Note: please bring your "HKU-Cert CD" to the workshop if you have one.)

This workshop will cover the following topics:
1. Introduction to concepts of the HKU Portal
2. Visiting the HKU Portal and customising your own portal services
3. Introduction to concepts of PKI and ESD
4. Visiting the HKUESD applications and using your HKU-Cert

In the HKU Portal and HKUESD workshop for staff, the web-based applications for staff will be highlighted.
In the HKU Portal and HKUESD workshop for students, the Student Connect system will be highlighted.
