I see alerts when connecting to HKU wifi service. What should I do?

Due to the acquisition of Symantec Corporation's Certificate Authority business by DigiCert, Inc, all new digital certificates will be signed by a new root Certificate Authority “Digicert”.   

A new certificate protecting the HKU WiFi services has been installed on 31 July 2018 and due to the above mentioned change, users may be prompted to accept a new certificate ONCE for each SSID for continue using the HKU WiFi network.   The affected SSIDs (service set identifiers) include “HKU”, “eduroam”, "Universities via CSL" and "Universities via Y5ZONE".


Windows 10

  1. Users may see the following alert when they connect to HKU WiFi network after the installation of the new certificate (Note: ITS-TEST is only a test account and users will not see this SSID.  They will see “HKU” Action needed.)

  2. Click the SSID “HKU” and the "Connect" button.  Users can then continue using the WiFi service as usual.

Windows 8

  1. Users may see the following alert when they connect to HKU WiFi network after the installation of the new certificate.  Click "Connect" to accept the new certificate.

Mac OS X

  1. Users may see the following alert when they connect to HKU WiFi network after the installation of the new certificate.  Click "Continue" to accept the new certificate (Note: ITS-TEST is only a test account and users will not see this SSID.  They will see “HKU” or “eduroam” instead.)

  2. Users may be asked for “User Name” and “Password” of their Mac for changing the Certificate Trust Settings. Please input the required information and click “Update Settings”.

iOS (iPhone and iPad)

Users will see the following alert when they connect to HKU WiFi network after the installation of the new certificate.  Please tab "Trust" to accept the new certificate.

Andriod

Users will not see any alert when they connect to HKU WiFi network after the installation of the new certificate.   They can use the HKU WiFi service as usual.

 

Note:

If the above procedure does not help you connecting to the HKU WiFi network, please remove the WiFi profile and re-connect by following the steps outlined in the webpage below:
