Procedure to Enable SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) on POP/IMAP for Staff Email

Steps to Enable SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)

POP

1. Gmail (to fetch mail via POP)

  1. Click gear icon at the top of any Gmail page > click See all settings > open the Accounts and Import tab.

  2. In the Accounts and Import tab, under Check mail from other accounts, click edit info.

  3. Change the Port no. to 995 and check Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving email.

2. Outlook

A. POP

  1. Click the Windows icon   > click   > type Control Panel > press Enter.

  2. Click User Accounts > Mail (Microsoft outlook).

  3. Click Email Accounts… .

  4. Click Change….

  5. Click More Settings… and Next.

  6. Click the tab Advanced and under “Incoming server (POP3)”, check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL/TLS).

B. IMAP

  1. Click the Windows icon   > click   > type Control Panel > press Enter.

  2. Click User Accounts > Mail (Microsoft outlook).

  3. Click Email Accounts… Click Email Accounts… .

  4. Click Change… .

  5. Click More Settings… and Next.

  6. Click the tab Advanced and under “Incoming server (IMAP)”, select SSL/TLS under “Use the following type of encrypted connection".

3. Thunderbird

A. POP

  1. Right click the account name and click Settings.

  2. Click Server Settings, check Port no. is 995 and select SSL/TLS under Connection security.

B. IMAP

  1. Right click the account name and click Settings.

  2. Click Server Settings, check Port no. is 993 and select SSL/TLS under Connection security.

4. Apple Mail

A. POP

  1. Go to Mail and click Preferences.

  2. Under Accounts tab, click Server Settings.

  3. Under Incoming Mail Server (POP), uncheck Automatically manage connection settings.

  4. Enter 995 under Port and click Use TLS/SSL.

B. IMAP

  1. Go to Mail and click Preferences.

  2. Under Accounts tab, click Server Settings.

  3. Under Incoming Mail Server (IMAP), uncheck Automatically manage connection settings.

  4. Enter 993 under Port and check Use TLS/SSL.

5. iOS

A. POP

  1. Open Settings and go to Mail.

  2. Select Account.

  3. Click Advanced.

  4. Turn on Use SSL.

B. IMAP

  1. Open Settings and select Mail.

  2. Select Account.

  3. Click Advanced.

  4. Turn on Use SSL.

6. Android

  1. Tap Settings.

  2. Go to Accounts and backup.

  3. Select Accounts.

  4. Tap Email Accounts > Account Settings > Incoming Settings.

  5. Change Security type to SSL/TLS.
