From Proven Strengths to New Horizons
Octopus’ success story – from a home-grown brand to a global premier contactless smartcard payment system
HKU ITS is pleased to have senior executives of Octopus Holdings Limited coming on campus to introduce the fast growing corporation and how Octopus, as a home grown brand, has evolved to be one of the world’s most successful contactless smart cards by applying innovative technology in diverse applications that make our everyday life easier.
Octopus Cards Limited is the operator of the Octopus system and is the issuer of Octopus. "Octopus" is the world’s pioneering and most extensive contactless smart card system including Octopus cards and products. Octopus is widely used in payments on public transport and a wide array of retailers. Users simply tab their Octopus over a reader, and the correct amount will be deducted from their Octopus automatically without the hassle of using cash and coins. For some residential and commercial buildings, Octopus is also used as access control.
The event includes an exhibition and a talk. All are welcome to visit the exhibition. Seats are limited for the talk. Please register as soon as possible through the HKU Event Management System (http://hkuems1.hku.hk/hkuems/ec_hdetail.aspx?ueid=21616).
