Reminders Related to IT Services for Graduating Students of 2018

Free Email Accounts for HKU Graduates

Students’ HKU Portal account will expire upon graduation but they can continue using the email service provided by the University.  All graduating students will be notified by email in the next few months about the expiry of their HKU Portal accounts and things that they need to know regarding their HKU Connect graduate email accounts. 

There will be no change to students’ email accounts after graduation EXCEPT the simplified email address UID@hku.hk, the simplified email alias alias@hku.hk (if one is set up) and the email auto-forwarding rule from UID@hku.hk to UID@connect.hku.hk will become ineffective.  Students may continue using UID@connect.hku.hk and alias@connect.hku.hk after graduation.  All students are reminded, where applicable, to notify friends and acquaintances the change of email address from UID@hku.hk to UID@connect.hku.hk, and to cancel all of their mailing list subscriptions using UID@hku.hk prior to the expiry of the HKU Portal account.

For those students who would have problem in accessing Google service in their home country, they are recommended to setup email forwarding before leaving the University so that they can continue to receive email sent to their HKU Connect email address.

End of Access to the Personalised HKU WiFi and VPN Facilities

Access to the HKU campus network, WiFi networks (i.e. "HKU", "eduroam", "Universities via CSL" and "Universities via Y5ZONE") and HKUVPN (HKU Virtual Private Network) will no longer be available for graduates.  When visiting the University, they can use “Wi-Fi.HK via HKU” service for making network connection within the campus network.

End of Access to Communal PCs and uPrint Service

Access to Communal PCs in Chi Wah Learning Commons and Room 110 (KB110) in The Oval will be unavailable for graduates after their HKU Portal account is disabled. Students must settle all outstanding liability of printing units incurred before graduation. Unused uPrint quota will be removed from the account and no refund is applicable.

End of the Right to Use Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus Services

It is important for graduating students to note that their right to use Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus and OneDrive for Business offered by the University will expire on the same date as their HKU Portal account.  The Microsoft Office products installed on their PCs, Macs and mobile devices will be deactivated and they will see a product deactivated message when they try using these products after the expiry date.  Also, data stored on OneDrive for Business, if it is used, will be deleted and students are advised to back up their files well before the expiry date.   They can refer to our user guide at http://www.its.hku.hk/documentation/guide/others/mssa for the steps in details.  Students who wish to continue using the Microsoft services concerned can purchase them directly from Microsoft.
